It was just a crazy idea. Call it a dream. Travel to the North of Finland and see the Northern Lights with my own eyes. Trying to catch a natural phenomenon can be a challenge. Long ago I tried to see a full solar eclipse in the North of France. Unfortunately it was cloudy so I only could “feel” the eclipse passing over and see just a glimpse. And indeed history repeats. I saw only a glimpse of the Northern Lights. This was all I got.

That doesn’t mean the trip failed. Quite the opposite. It was one of the most beautiful trips I have ever made. And I got to survive temperatures between -26 degrees and 80 degrees Celsius! The heat came from the traditional Finish sauna of course. And the best thing was absolutely walking on the frozen sea at the beach of Oulu.

What you can’t see in pictures taken in the snow unfortunately is another natural phenomenon. Often in the air there are floating snow crystals, something like frozen mist. Giving a magical touch to everything you see when hiking in the forests. Another highlight was Maija guiding me through the north of Finland, thank you again Maija for all the magical moments.
